Community Development Director Named for Lakeport

LAKEPORT, Calif --- The city of Lakeport selected Joey Hejnowicz as its new Community Development Director effective July 24.

Hejnowicz, a Lake County native and graduate of Kelseyville High School, held various positions over the past ten years with the city of Santa Rosa, most recently as its Zero Waste Coordinator and previously as an administrative analyst in the City Manager’s office.

Additional experience in local government was gained as the research and program coordinator for the Santa Rosa Police Department, managing the department’s federal, state and local grants.

Hejnowicz graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in hospitality and tourism management.  His early professional employment included ten years in hotel management in San Diego and Los Angeles.

An interest in returning closer to home in Northern California brought Hejnowicz to the wine industry where he worked in sales and business development for a winery prior to his time with the city of Santa Rosa.  He earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from Sonoma State University while working for the city of Santa Rosa.

“I hope my management experience with a focus on customer service in a variety of municipal projects and programs will contribute to the opportunities that exist in the Community Development department as Lakeport expands the services we provide to our residents and businesses,” said Hejnowicz.  “I appreciate the support from City staff and Council.”

“We are thrilled to fill the Community Development director position with an experienced administrator who will apply his customer-focused approach to leadership of the department,” said City Manager Kevin Ingram.  “We believe Joey is the right person at the right time in Lakeport’s growth.”
