Lakeport Police Department Issues Traffic Advisory as Students Return to School

LAKEPORT, Calif. – As the Lakeport Unified School District starts classes on Tuesday, Aug. 8, the Lakeport Police Department is reminding all drivers to use extreme caution when traveling in the area of and on the grounds of the Lakeport schools.

Police said they expect heavier-than-normal vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the mornings and afternoons during the first few days of school.

Also, road construction work is still being done on Giselman Street between Lakeshore Blvd and Lange Streets.

The street will be open for traffic this week. However, between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. crews will be working along the roadway shoulders. Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. crews will work in the travel lanes which will cause minor delays.

Police ask motorists to use extreme caution and drive slow in this area.

In order to provide the highest level of traffic safety, the police department will be deploying extra patrols in the area of the schools throughout the week and will be issuing citations for moving and parking violations when appropriate.
